About

I started to draw from a very young age, eight or nine. From there, I never looked back. Since i was in school i was always with a pencil/pen in my hand drawing on the back of copybooks. I had to draw from imagination - no ipods or camera phones at hand!

I started to paint seriously when I was in my late teens . I did a Foundation Course (one year full time) Dundrum V.E.C was my catalyst. I didn’t go on to Art College, as I knew I didn’t want to know “how to paint” from a Teacher/Tutor. I did take an intensive watercolour course in my twenties from a well know local artist: Mary Golden; she always encouraged me to continue to paint - she said she ’saw some thing in me’. I kept at my painting/drawing when I was holding down a full time job as I loved it so much. To this day I still love to draw regularly as it keeps me from “rusting”.

When I was working in London in the mid-nineties I was exhibiting in local Gallery’s of my district : Lewisham SE12. The River Thames was my inspiration of choice. Trevor Chamberlain was a favourite Watercolourist painter of mine then, still is.

Returning back from London was a gamble for me as I had a reasonably good job there. Ireland was coming out of recession also. The good thing when I came back was that I had a firm footing on what medium I had wanted to work with: Oil & Watercolour. I started to show my work to local Galleries in Dublin. Some “bit” others didn’t, but it didn’t deter me one bit! I now show regularly at The Framework Gallery, Dun Laoghaire & Kilternan Art Gallery. Kilternan. You will find my work also at: Kennedy’s Harcourt Street, Dublin 1.

I do hope you find my work interesting. Colour is a major player in my work. I like to experiment in various methods: IE: Palette Knife, Brush, even my fingers! This is to put emotion and mood into a canvases. My choice of subjects is there to see. When you look closer, you will find there are a lot of Marine subjects and Canals - this is where my heart is. My Dad was a Naval Man himself, this probably has something to do with it!
