John Skelton

Born in Co. Armagh. John Skelton studied at Queens University Belfast. He graduated from St, Martins College of Art in the 50’s. He settled in Dublin subsequently and practiced as a commercial artist and book illustrator. John has held numerous one man shows in Dublin, Belfast and throughout Ireland and exhibits regularly at the R.H.A., Irish Living Art and the Watercolour Society of Ireland. John Skelton has also numerous private collections in Ireland and abroad. John has a justified reputation as a lecturer and teacher. Influenced by the American artist Edward Hopper…(who i like also). When John looks at Ed’s work I’m sure he feels a sense of likeness to his; you can see in John’s work he has a big devotion to his native land, and it shows very well. Just look at his colours and sky’s…they are not only very real, but, they seem to have a rare quality of reality and a justified presence of the painter in the works. John is also a skilled Water colourist; if you ever get a chance to see his work in a gallery…you WILL be captivated by his colours and brush work. He really is a beautiful painter.
